I love movies like this. A slice of life movie, but a slice that I give a fuck about. It all comes down to the feelings it brings out in you. I watched it with Mike and Kelsey, two people that have just been dumped by their significant others. The movie shows the main characters fall in love and mature. Mike saw hope in the movie, that he would find love. Kelsey saw bullshit. A totally unbelievable ending because it's a happy one. I understand their opposing views and agree with both. I am bitter from past relationships like Kelsey but I still have hope for a romance straight out of the movies. Realistic? Probably not, but you have to believe in something better.

Speaking of Mike getting dumped, he keeps asking for my advice on what he should do. How the fuck should I know. I can barely handle my own life, I probably shouldn't be giving out advice...especially while drinking but I digress.

Mike: She said she'd call me back and that was three days ago.
Me: She's probably too busy fucking someone else.
Mike: What? Oh my god, my life sucks I want to kill myself. (emo kid to begin with)

Three Day Weekend

I'm going to watch Garden State later today, I've heard a lot of good things about it. It was described as this summers Lost in Translation, so on that alone I must see it.

I was at the Less Than Jake show at the House of Blues last Thursday. It was a real fun show. Corpus and I got a good buzz beforehand in the Mandalay Bay and that allowed me to jump into the pit a few times and kick some ass. But it was a very peaceful pit compared to others I've seen. Overall the show kicked ass and I'm now a fan.

Other than that this has been a quick week. Work, sleep, computer for the most part. I've been uploading to my new Ipod. Tiberius(it's name) has 1180 songs with 13.2GB left. Proud to say most of it is illegal thanks to suprnova, or ripped from friends. Gotta love the internet.

I just got done watching Jiang Hu and really liked it. Read this review which I agree with exactly.

Scary Movies

I bought The Eye 2 on DVD about a week ago and finally got around to watching it last night. The old Mongolian clerk who sold it to me recommended it over the first one, that's why I bought it. From reviews I've read online most people like The Eye better when compared to The Eye 2. It scared me and kept me entertained so I enjoyed it.

I remember the actress, Qi Shu from a Jackie Chan movie I watched years ago called Gorgeous. She's still as beautiful now as she was then. And she's a good actress as well.



This movie is about Joey Cheng(Qi),who has just had a failed suicide, she's ignored by her ex-boyfriend, and she finds out she's pregnant. To top it all of she starts to see spirits at random places. One in particular, of a young woman, keeps re-appearing. At one point she even makes eye contact with Joey and looks at Joey's pregnant belly. Who, why, and what do they have to do with her baby is what follows.

I like the fact that the directors didn't rely solely on making the audience jump. That kind of stuff scares for a second and that's it. Instead they fucked with me psychologically. I've had moments, in the shower for example, when I close my eyes to wash soap or shampoo off my face and I hear a noise and I swear that if I open them there's going to be somebody watching me, starring at me. This movie just kept bringing those feelings up. I was alone in the dark and I kept hearing things behind me or in the other room. I was freaked. I usually don't get scared with movies but this one did it to me.

Now this might bring up recollections of The Sixth Sense, but that was not scary to me. It made me jump a few times but that's it. The dead people in that movie where all bloody and wounded and shit. In this movie they're normal, just dead, starring at you and you don't know what they want. To me that's creepier for some reason.

The Blind Swordsman

I watched Zatoichi a couple days ago at the theater. I've never seen any other movie based on this character so I have nothing to compare it to. I really enjoyed. Some of the best movies I've seen lately are Asian including: Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter... and Spring, Hero...shit, I had a list in my head of some of the Asian flicks I've watched recently but now they elude me. Whatever, I'll edit them in if I can recall them.



Anyways, Zatoichi is fucking cool. An old and blind masseur who travels around doing good deeds, gambling, and other stuff old blind masseurs do. A Masseur? What the hell kind of job is that for a killing machine. When would he have time to learn how to give a good massage what with all the fighting evil he does. Anyways, back to the point. He's like a Jedi knight with the force. He hears and feels all the attacks that come at him. The fighting scenes in this movie are really cool. I like the way most fights go in Samurai movies. Usually it's one great swordsman against a lot of weak opponents, typical movie scene. What I enjoy is when two great swordsman meet and you know only one will live. It's very much like a showdown in a Clint Eastwood movie. The camera switches from one fighter to the other, the music builds up, faster, shot of hilt, louder, closeup of an eye, crescendo, SILENCE!, camera jumps out as they draw their swords and just like that one of them is dead. Very cool.



Aside from the great fighting the story is also good. It follows the typical samurai plot line: samurai wandering around saves village/family/child but this one has some excellent side stories as well. There's some great comic relief, good music, and awesome visuals. A must see movie.

Also watched I'll Sleep When I'm Dead which is a good British revenge movie. Not suspense's enough, since you know everything that's happened and you just watch the characters and how they react to what you already know. But still good, great acting.

Rented A Clockwork Orange. It's ok I guess. So many people have talked that movie up to me that I think I expected too much and was let down by it. Cupric movies, to me, are to sterile. The sets look to fake, not realistic. I can't believe in his world and that just throws the entire movie off for me. I really liked the threesome scene.

Kansas City

I took a little road trip with Neon this last week. She was returning to art school in Kansas City and I tagged along to help on the two day drive. The drive itself wasn't bad, but it did get boring. Driving through the Rocky Mts. was nice, it reminded me a lot of home and growing up in Jackson, Wyoming. We made it fine, even though we almost ran out of gas once while driving through Utah.

Kansas City has the preconception of being a hick, cow, backwards kind of town, at least with me it did. But it is really a cool town. It has major sports, great art scene, great music scene, and great entertainment areas. I love the brick buildings that make up the majority of the downtown/westport areas. Brick is great when you consider all there is in Vegas is stucco. While house searching we found this great Victorian style house built in 1901. It's three stories, each floor a separate 'apartment' and we looked at the 2nd one. It would be a great place to live. Kind of dirty though, since two guys live there, but all it needs is a womans touch. Hopefully Neon will get it.

We spent one evening at a brewery in the cigar lounge. That was so much fun. We had a couple great cigars, some good beer, and great conversation. The conversation was something I'd really missed this summer. Hanging out with Neon was the greatest part of the trip. I'm greedy, so having her all to myself was perfect.

I can't wait to go back.

Drinking Story

I have a lot to tell since I've been in Kansas City for the last week or so, but all I'm going to talk about right now is what's going on at the moment. Corpus and I went drinking at the Suncoast Casino which I get free drink tickets from a friend at the sports book. We ordered Singapore Slings, and after every SS we had a shot of Patron Silver Tequila. So we had a great buzz going. Then a couple of his friends from high school joined us and that's when the fun started. Corpus had a couple tequila shots really quickly, by this time we'd move up to Anejo instead of Silver. As I asked him how his tequila was he sprayed it out onto his shirt, he stood up and headed to the bathroom but first got some on the guy sitting behind him, a bartender who was drinking after his shift. All in all very funny. To watch not to experience. I followed him to the bathroom where some fucker was making fun of him, his shirt covered in vomit. When we made it back to the table the girls, who'd names I don't remember, said that we had to leave since he was so drunk, bar policy i guess. So as we were leaving I notice they were sitting with the bartender he'd splattered, kind of funny, but anyways we got home ok. He hit the bong a little and we decided to go eat, we ended up at Jack in the Box. Got some tacos, not bad. What was great was the car behind us had some girls in it. One of them, Shirley, came up to our window and talked with us while we waited. She was way drunk off tequila just like us, which at the moment was great, but she got distracted by the guy working the window...Oh well, slut. Anyways not a bad night...I'll get to Kansas City in the next post, it was great.

Update

Went to Huntington Beach a few days ago. Left early and got back to Vegas really late. Just Neon and me. It was a lot of fun, playing around in the waves and laying on the blanket together. I really needed that time together. We got lost a couple times on the way back, since I didn't print out the directions on how to get back. You'd think it would be as easy as doing the opposite of what you did on the way there, but the freeways in California don't seem to work that way. It was a great day. We're going to Kansas City in a couple days, that should be great fun as well.

I went to a promo of Without a Paddle which is funny, but a little preachy in parts when it tries to get a message across. Goddamn is Seth Green short.

I love listening to The Reverend. He is the most passionate speaker so far. He has that great church minister voice that makes you want to yell out 'amen.' He really gets the crowd going. He knew what to say to rouse the troops. Clinton was charismatic but had a laid back feeling. Sharpton was in your face. He had great one liners, he made some great points, and he really took it to Bush.

It looks like he went off of the speech he was originally going to do, because the transcript on the Dems. website is much tamer than the one he delivered. I think this is a good thing. Sure, they need to make sure a speaker doesn't fuck it up but you can't completely restrain a speaker with out ruining his speech.

I finally got to see the O'Reilly interview of Moore. I feel Moore did a great job. He really mad O'Reilly look bad. But like O'Reilly says at the end, you can't change a person's mind when they aren't open to it. If Moore said the sky was blue O'Reilly would dispute it. O'Reilly fails to see the logic in Moore's case. Too bad.

I feel very good right now, well not physically since I have a sore throat and cold sore, but emotionally. I've been really down for about the last week, shit the whole summer really. I was going paranoid and jealous, but I took care of it tonight. It was better knowing either way than not knowing and just making shit up in my head. I was thinking of drinking tonight but I'll just listen to music instead. Happy music. J-Pop music. I can't understand the lyrics so it can't possibly make me sad. No rap tonight. I realized my rap mp3 collection has started turning very emoish lately. And nothing fucks with your head like emo. So all's quiet on this front.

I came home just in time to watch Bill Clinton's speech at the convention. Wow! What a great speaker. If only he could run again. Kerry's going to have a hard time topping Clinton. It was the best pro-Kerry anti-Bush speech I've heard all year. He didn't slam Bush yet gave great arguments against him. He didn't resort to name calling or character bashing, he just laid out a point by point argument comparing the two. Very well done from a great man.



Hopefully I can dl Al Gore's and the rest of the speaker's speeches with bittorrent.

Funny Old Lady

I was surfing the television around midnight. For some reason Oxygen, another network for women, was not blocked. I saw this old lady waving a pink dildo around, saying it's her favorite, how it was hard to get the testers to give it back, and how it smells fruity and then smelling it. Oh my god. That's great. I ended up watching the entire show. It's called The Sunday Night Sex Show (it's not Sunday). People call in and ask questions, she has dolls she uses to show different sexual positions, she reviews sex books, shows her favorite sex toys, etc. Since I only got to watch about 15 minutes I went online to the shows site. They have video clips there, which are must see. Especially the one about oral sex. She's holding the dildo up to her mouth to demonstrate. She's right about it not being a pretty sight. Funniest thing on TV, educational too.

King Arthur

I watched King Arthur yesterday. I don't understand why it's doing so bad at the box office. I loved it. Better than Troy, better than Spider-Man 2, better than anything else out right now. Yet, people are not going to see it.

The movie is the story of Arthur told as it could have happened, not the story you know. I love the magic of all the previous tales told about Arthur, but seeing this movie made it real. It had it's own magic, not from a wizard but from the land, their love, their heart.

I do wish the movie had been rated R, so the fighting could have been a more realistic, but even after saying that, I thought it was better than the fighting in Troy. Also the Roman sets could have been better done. They looked a little too new. I loved the costume and the local Britons looked incredible. They reminded me of Dark Elves. Keira Knightley as Guinevere, with blue makeup and a bow, baring her teeth at the Saxons, beautiful.

I loved the fact that Lancelot does not betray Arthur. I've always hated the Lancelot character because of his seduction of Guinevere. But here he redeems himself in my eyes. And speaking of Guinevere. Never have I seen a more beautiful Guinevere. She's not the week, blond, Princess that I've come to imagine. She's Arthur's equal.

Boondocks by Aaron McGruder

Blankets

I just finished reading one of the saddest but amazing books ever. Blankets by Craig Thompson is one of the best graphic novels I've ever read. It's a story about Craig growing up, his first love, his faith, and finding himself in life. His relationship with Raina made me yearn for the same. I fell in love with Raina. I wish this book had never ended.

The book comes in at 582 pages, and I whipped through it in about an hour. Thompson's black and white art is excellent. It's very clear and never gets muddy and hard to make out like some b&w comics can. He portrayed emotion, especially saddness and lonliness, so well in his panels. The writing sounded very natural and never broke the spell by being out of place.

Aquabats

I went to the Aquabats show a few days ago. Didn't really like them. I thought, a bunch of guys dressed up as super heroes playing music - has potential. But I was let down by them. Plus I was led to believe that they're a ska band. Right. A ska band with only two horns? I think not. I went to a Reel Big Fish show once, now that was ska. But anyways, I had fun if only cuz the people I was with are cool. They tried to get me to skank but to no avail. If I didn't skank in high school back when ska was cool, I wasn't going to do it now.

The Las Vegas Heat!?

I was reading the Chicago Tribune (online) and I came upon this little tidbit buried within an article on the Shaq trade to Miami.

The Heat has been in financial difficulty in recent years. It's also the only NBA team that has hidden its balcony behind a curtain because of empty seats. Fortunes improved during Miami's exciting playoff run, but rumors remain that the franchise is one of most likely to be sold.

The Las Vegas Heat?

That's a name that fits the move.

South Florida isn't the greatest place for an NBA franchise. Pro basketball never has been big there. Even the old ABA bailed out after a short stay. It has been a struggle for the Heat, which already is playing in its second new arena since joining the NBA in 1988 and historically ranks among the lowest in average attendance.

With the lure of Las Vegas, O'Neal and Dwyane Wade in Heat uniforms, and Jordan in an ownership position, it would be no problem for him to put together a major ownership group. Jordan would have a chance to run the first major-league sports franchise in Las Vegas. And what a draw that would be for players.

Ooh wee! The Las Vegas Heat! Has a nice ring to it doesn't it? I would be in heaven if this happened. All the talk is about the Expos maybe coming to town (haven't heard yes or no yet) but come on, that's baseball. Baseball just doesn't have the excitement that basketball does. I would enjoy the Expos, but they kinda suck and it would be a few years before that changed. The Heat, on the other hand, would be Championship contenders immediately. Shaq in the East, nobodies stopping him. I've never liked Shaq, but for some reason his leaving the Lakers has made him likable. I guess it's the Lakers I hate.

While this may just be crazy talk, I'm excited.

Great Advice For the Kids

Have a Beer

I've been on a beer kick lately. Just another one of the fads I go through every now and then. I've usually been a Corona or Heineken kind of guy, but I decided to give darker beers a try. My first choice, because I've heard of it and because they sell it around the corner is a beer from Colorado. Fat Tire was a beer I heard a lot about growing up in Jackson, Wyoming. The makers describe it as follows:

I was at an English Pub awhile back, the Crown and Anchor, and I had a Smithwicks, or as the British fellow said, "When you're drunk, you can just say Smithicks". It was good, unfortunately, that's the only place I've seen it and it's all the way across town. I also tried Guinness Stout, that tasted like shit. Actually it reminded me of sausage, since it was so smokey flavored, it probably would have been good with some pork. Nasty though, too dark for me, I'll stick to the Amber Ales.

First Friday

I accompanied Neon to First Friday which is an arts and entertainment event in the Las Vegas Arts District. Some months there is great art, some months the art is shit. This month, in my opinion, the art was bad. I don't pretend to be able to do any better but I feel like I can tell good art from bad art. Anyways, there was free alcohol, free cheese and crackers, and free music. So overall it was a fun night out. Here's a few pics I took with my cell phone.


I wasn't sure if these were art pieces or actually made for sitting. I grabbed a Tecate and sat down, nobody said anything so I guess it wasn't art.

Picture of the mural on the wall of graffiti artist Dray's bungalow. Because it's across from a school bus stop, some people have complained over the exposed breasts. Of course these people don't complain about the showgirls asses that are plastered on most taxis or the stripjoint billboards. Whatever, losers. I happen to like this mural a lot and hope to see more. So do the kids at the bus stop.

An Interview with Chuck Palahniuk

Found this interview on Bookslut. It's pretty good. I haven't actually read any of his books, though I want to, but he seems like a really cool guy. There's some good tips in there for you writers.

Some writers research in order to write. I write in order to research topics that interest me. Especially if I can meet with other people, in forums from illness support groups to phone-sex hotlines, and learn what other people know best. Every character (really, person) sees the world through a framework of education and experience that they're proud experts about. To write a character, find out what they know best, and THEN you'll know how they'll describe a "hot day." Or a "pretty girl."

This may be old news but it's new to me. Yesterday Dubya got interviewed for Irish television by Carole Coleman. She stuck it to him good. She'd ask a hard question and he'd start to answer it with what seemed like pre-written responses that were off topic. So she'd interrupt to get him back to the issue and Bush would get mad and scowl. "Lemme finish, may I finish. You ask the questions and I'll answer them if you don't mind." I do mind asshole. Don't run around the questions. And if you didn't pause so much when you spoke people wouldn't think you were done with your response. Good job Carole.

If you put yourself into your artwork, then sell it, are you a prostitute? Was Donatello's patron, de'Medici, a pimp? Was Michelangelo a Vatican whore? I guess metaphorically you can say yes. But with Andrea Frasor you can also say literally.

Untitled,, 2003 was initiated in 2002 when Andrea Fraser approached Friedrich Petzel Gallery to arrange a commission with a private collector on her behalf. The requirements for the commission were to include a sexual encounter between Fraser and a collector, which would be recorded on videotape, with the first exemplar of the edition going to the participating collector. The resulting videotape is a silent, unedited, sixty-minute document shot in a hotel room with a stationary camera and existing lighting.

Definitely prostitution, but is it art as well? I guess you can call it that. But then you would have to call silent, unedited, sixty-minute shot of a woman being raped art. Or a murder. Interesting.

Beasties and Killers and Others

I downloaded the new Beastie Boy album To The 5 Boroughs yesterday. I've heard a lot of good reviews on it but finally got it because of Mike's recommendation. I've never been a huge fan of the Beasties but I respect their music. I find it a little whiny when it comes to their voices but they usually have good beats. So I've been listening to it all day and I actually like it. It's very refreshing in this scene of Lil' John, 50 Cent and Bling Bling. It's got that old school feel with modern beats. Their voices are still high pitched but overall I liked it.

I also downloaded The Killers Hot Fuss after Josh Ellis mentioned them. I guess they started out in Vegas but I'd never heard of them. I like them so far. They have an eighties synth-pop feel to them which I enjoy but with a name like The Killers, I expected it to be a lot harder. I definetley enjoy them more than the Shins or Granddaddy.

Also, in the last month I've downloaded the following: Usher, Johnny Cash, Nina Simone, Kill Bill Soundtrack, Barry White, and Smashing Pumpkins among a few others. I've updated my DL list for the year. Check it out.

gmailswap and filthy monkies

Today I received a couple things in the mail. A DVD boxed set which includes The Matrix and Matrix Revisited. Not scratched, which I'll admit is what I expected. I also received a cool little zine called Wishbone #10, from Angela. I haven't had a chance to go through it but it looks cool. All this for giving out gmail invites. This is so cool. I really didn't expect them to actually send what they said they would. Yay to honest people and gmail.

Dial Up Hell

I'm hanging out at Neon's house, which seems to be stuck in the mid 90's: no digital cable, and god forbid no cable modem. Aaaahhhhh!!! How do people live like this. 12 minutes to download an mp3. I've usually downloaded it and heard enough to delete most of the crap in 30 seconds. This computer has lots of memory (which mine doesn't) and lots of HD space (which mine doesn't) but it's all going to waste with only a modem to fill it up. It's cool though. I feel like I'm roughing it here, like taking a trip to some third world country. Good times.

It seems that Yahoo mail is getting worried about the still in beta Gmail. I only check it about once a week to read some comic strips that get delivered there. When I logged into it today I recieved the following message:

I don't like their 'streamlined interface', the font bothers me and it doesn't really affect the ease of using the system.

Also 100mb isn't much compared to 1000mb. It's much better than the 6mb they used to offer. And allowing message sizes of 10mb is a good move too. But none of this really makes it compete with Gmail. A good try but not enough. Expect Hotmail to make some moves soon.

I just received 5 more invites that I can hand out to Gmail. One of them is already gone leaving me with 4. Now the last 3 I had I gave them away on a first come first serve basis but the thing is that besides Dowingba, I have no idea who I gave them to. Gmail Invites

I have three more invites to give out for Gmail. If any of you who read this would like one just let me know, first come first serve. I gave out three already on gmailswap and got a couple mixed cds, a zine and some stickers. Not bad if you think about it. But you lucky souls will get it for nothing. Of course if I get no requests in the next few days then I'll just use gmailswap again.

If you haven't tried it, Gmail is great. The best by far. It catches most spam, has a great search feature, tons of room (I'm barely at 1mb, but the best thing has to be the conversations feature. It groups all the replys to and from a person in the same window so you don't have to go all over the place to see what they said before. I have about 150 emails but have no problem keeping them organized with labels instead of folders. It's wonderful. So hit me up if you want an invite.

Free Comic Book Day

I love comic books. I wish I had the money to buy all my favorites, but I have a shitty job and have had to stop for the foreseeable future. So I live for days like this one. Free, as in no money needed, comic books. Damn right I'll be there. This is the third year they've had this promotion and I enjoyed it very much last year. I drove all over town to try and get all the comics that were being offered. Infact, I probably spent more on gas than the books were worth. Oh well, it was fun. The owner, Steve, is a great guy. He sells his books with no tax and 10% off if you join the club, so that alone makes it the best deal in town. He has a very cool shop, which he's been expanding recently. He has all the mainstream books, a large adult comic section, tons of back issues, busts and toys. If he doesn't have it he can get it for you. I do wish he had a larger independent section. He gets his books on Friday not Wednesday. Stupid home page.

First comic shop I went to here in Vegas. Ralph, the owner, knows his comics. He gives great recommendations and always has great books spotlighted. He has a large independent (alternative) books section incase your not into the superhero books. He also has a good manga selection. Last year he had Steve Grant (I think) signing books on Free Comic Book Day, so he'll probably have someone this year. His web page is no more unfortunately.

Those are the only two I support. Kool Kollectables (on Charleston) is another shop with an ok selection but the owner is a bastard. Don't you dare touch his books cuz he'll bite you. There's one small shop near the Latino Cinema over on E. Trop which was nice but it's very small. There's also a new 'Mega' store behind the Borders at the corner of Sahara and Decatur. I haven't had a chance to visit it but I've seen the ads. For more stores look in the yellow pages and call before you go because they seem to move a lot, bastards.

I'm just sitting here at the moment, listening to music. A little bit of everything, but mostly 60s and 70s Soul. The Chi-Lites, The Stylistics, O'Jays and The Spinners. It's really soothing music. I have no idea how I got into this kind of music since it wasn't listened to around my household, but somehow I did and it's one of my favorites styles.

La Muerte de un Toro

This was one of the most terrible things I've been witness to. Bullfighting is a big tradition in Mexican and Spanish culture. This was my first time seeing one live. I expected a fight between a man and a bull. A fight between man and beast. Instead, what I got was the slaughtering of a bull. He never had a chance. I knew the the outcome was in the man's favor, but I expected the bull to have a shot at it. But after about five minutes of the matador, and his three assistants, running from the bull a heavily armored horse came out. The rider carried a spear. The bull charged the horse and the rider drove the spear into the bull's back. The blood poured from the wound. The crowd, mostly American, had been cheering and yelling ole. When they saw the blood a silence set in and lasted to the last second. The bull started having trouble breathing and moving. The next 15 minutes were the matador putting on a show. And when it came down to driving the sword into the bulls spine, it took the idiot four tries. The crowd watched in silence as the bull fell and twitched on the ground, blood oozing out his nose. Nobody clapped.

Meat and Malt Liqour

Just got off work, and I'm in the need of sittin back and chillin. So I'm eating some of the beef jerky my sister made and throwing back some fine malt liqour, Mickey's. This has got to be one of the worst beers I've ever had. But it's all we have. I had a little party awhile back and I asked these two girls what they wanted to drink and they requested Mickey's. Good Times

I should smoke and do drugs. I think it fits my personality. I can imagine myself as a chain smoker, lighting a cigarette with the previous one. I see people who smoke and it looks like they enjoy it so much, like it relieves the pressure. You can get lost in the smoke and escape. Too bad it smells. Drugs to seem like a good thing. To enhance or dull your emotions, your senses. To help you see things that are hidden from the rest of us. To connect you to a higher being. To make you a higher being. It sounds good. But my parents told me not to, and I listened to them. I don't really know why. Nobody else listened to their parents, why did I? It wasn't like they even made it a big deal, they probably only mentioned it a couple times, but it stuck. I guess in the long run it's a good thing. I've seen the effects on those that went too far, too long, or just plain had shitty luck. Drugs are like the Sirens, calling to you, whispering your name, drawing you towards Paradise. If you're lucky you just sail on to better things, but if you're not lucky you get pulled in, then it's up to your sailing skills and Neptune's wrath. Maybe you fight it and escape with your life, your ship battered but still floating, or maybe you lose the fight or you just give in and your ship is smashed on the rocks. Yup, goodtimes. I think I'll just stick to drinking.

There is pending legislation in the House and Senate (twin bills: S 89 and HR 163) which will time the program's initiation so the draft can begin at early as Spring 2005 -- just after the 2004 presidential election. The administration is quietly trying to get these bills passed now, while the public's attention is on the elections, so our action on this is needed immediately.

$28 million has been added to the 2004 Selective Service System (SSS) budget to prepare for a military draft that could start as early as June 15, 2005. Selective Service must report to Bush on March 31, 2005 that the system, which has lain dormant for decades, is ready for activation. The pentagon has quietly begun a public campaign to fill all 10,350 draft board positions and 11,070 appeals board slots nationwide.. Though this is an unpopular election year topic, military experts and influential members of congress are suggesting that if Rumsfeld's prediction of a "long, hard slog" in Iraq and Afghanistan [and a permanent state of war on "terrorism"] proves accurate, the U.S. may have no choice but to draft.

Congress brought twin bills, S. 89 and HR 163 forward this year, http://www.hslda.org/legislation/na...s89/default.asp entitled the Universal National Service Act of 2003, "to provide for the common defense by requiring that all young persons [age 18--26] in the United States, including women, perform a period of military service or a period of civilian service in furtherance of the national defense and homeland security, and for other purposes." These active bills currently sit in the committee on armed services.

Dodging the draft will be more difficult than those from the Vietnam era.

College and Canada will not be options. In December 2001, Canada and the U.S. signed a "smart border declaration," which could be used to keep would-be draft dodgers in. Signed by Canada's minister of foreign affairs, John Manley, and U.S. Homeland Security director, Tom Ridge, the declaration involves a 30-point plan which implements, among other things, a "pre-clearance agreement" of people entering and departing each country. Reforms aimed at making the draft more equitable along gender and class lines also eliminates higher education as a shelter. Underclassmen would only be able to postpone service until the end of their current semester. Seniors would have until the end of the academic year.

Even those voters who currently support US actions abroad may still object to this move, knowing their own children or grandchildren will not have a say about whether to fight. Not that it should make a difference, but this plan, among other things, eliminates higher education as a
shelter and includes women in the draft.

The public has a right to air their opinions about such an important decision.

Please send this on to all the friends, parents, aunts and uncles, grandparents, and cousins that you know. Let your children know too -- it's their future, and they can be a powerful voice for change!

Please also contact your representatives to ask them why they aren't telling their constituents about these bills -- and contact newspapers and other media outlets to ask them why they're not covering this important story.

The Evils of Liberalism

I love watching conservatives news shows, since that's all that's on TV, but I enjoy listening to the insane drivel that comes out of their mouths. They have no common sense, they're paranoid, and they can be plain stupid at times. Through Dowingba I found this site, Beyond Evil, who's tag line is 'Unmasking the moral corruption of Liberal philosophy'. Here's some of the 'unmasking' that takes place over there:

Just like it took the public school, it'll take marriage and any other issue we are willing to budge on.

Are you fucking serious? How do you go from gay marriage to fucking little kids. Does it really bother you that two men or two women are married? How does that affect you? Why is it your business if they are married? Just let them live their lives, they're not trying to marry you so leave them in peace. Turn the other cheek and shut the hell up.

More Albums

I added a few more albums to my downloaded list. I downloaded Maroon 5 for a friend not realizing I'd actually listened to them before. They're not bad. Wouldn't rush to a concert or pay for a CD but then few bands would make me do that. Dizzee Rascal is hip hop but very fresh compared to most top 40 rap these days. Hopefully he won't do a song with Lil' John anytime soon. YEAH.

So give me some tips on what to download next. I like all types of music. Though by looks of the list, I've only downloaded Pop and Hip Hop. So give me something new to listen to.

Laundry Day

I want to blog about something meaningful, something with substance, but I have nothing. Oh there's a lot of shit packed into my brain but it's packed to tightly to get any of it out. So instead I'm sitting here in front of the computer, surfing, well not really surfing because it can't be called surfing when you only visit the same five or six pages over and over and over and over. Dammit, I know it's Sunday night but why don't you people post something new. I need it. I live through you, so fucking post.

I'm listening to Johnny Cash, and I just got done with Prince's latest album, Musicology. That's a weird jump but my taste is usually like that. I had a kick back a week or so ago, and everyone commented on how varied my mp3 collection is. I guess it's just a reflection of how confused I am mentally. God, I'm turning into a whiny bitch lately.

I got a missed call yesterday on my cell phone. It was from my ex, Michelle. I called her back but a guy answered the phone. She wasn't there. He'd called me because of a text message I'd sent earlier. He said he's her fiance. I couldn't breath for second. I muttered my goodbyes and dropped the phone. I couldn't believe it, it couldn't be true. Not my little Michelle. It's crazy.

I'd just gotten off the phone with Neon, who mentioned that maybe Michelle was the one for me. That I should think about going back to her. Ha, well that ship has sailed. I hope she chose a good a person. God, I hope she's happy. She deserves to be happy.

My life has a soundtrack. Songs that stand out. Songs that represent specific event and times in my life. There's good songs, great songs, and a few shitty ones. I was looking through my old CD collection and it brought back a few memories.

Too $hort - BlowJob Betty - First gangsta rap song I heard. I listened to it on a field trip in 7th grade after I heard some guys singing along to it. I'd never heard anything like it. The only rap I'd listened up to that point was Hammer, Young MC, and LL. I loved it.

I'm staring at this thinking what the fuck to write about. I feel shitty. I got drunk last night and went to work off of 4 hours of sleep which normally would be fine but hung over it's hell. And the last thing you want to do in this situation is talk to fucking retard customers. So was it worth it. Hell ya. I had a lot of fun last night. Hanging with Corpus and Mona. We played a little cards then decided to play Presidents and Assholes. I am a ruthless President. I'm more of a Dictator. You look at me funny, you drink. You move to slow on your turn, you drink. You make me drink, you drink. Twice. So ya we had a lot of fun.

We ended up at Palace Station to enjoy some of their 99 cent breakfast. We got into a discussion about how much tip you leave for a 99 cent meal. Your obviously broke which is why you would eat a 99 cent breakfast in the first place. And it's not like the service is that great. It's 2AM and the waitress sure as hell doesn't want to be there. She didn't chat us up, she didn't ask me how my food was, she didn't even bring me my drink the busser did, she didn't cook the food, all she did was write it down, why does she deserve a tip? Too bad I'm not a big enough dick to leave 15%. 15 cent tip would just have been wrong. So we gave her a couple bucks so she can afford her heroin habit. I'm Rick James Bitch!

I wasn't going to blog about his, you know, trying to censor my blog because these days you never know what family members are reading it. Mom. Hi. But anyways, fuck it, I'm Rick James. So this girl at work, out of the blue, looks at me and says 'I don't have a gag reflex.' Silence. How the hell do you answer that? You can't go around telling people stuff like that, you might send someone into shock. I was speechless. A tear came to my eye. She smiled and walked off. I wish I smoked cuz I needed a cigarette.

She was super nice, had bought me a bunch of drinks and even kept making out with me after I turned and ralphed into the dumpster a couple of times, causing one patron walking by to clap his hands and gleefully dub us "Gainesville’s version of Sid and Nancy."

Gmail Illegal?

If an uppity Californian State Senator gets her way that may be true. Liz Figueroa has introduced a bill into the California Legislature saying e-mail providers may not evaluate the content of incoming e-mail originating from outside the system without the explicit permission of all outside correspondents. She must be crazy.

Why are people so scared of Gmail? If you want a gigabyte of email space then put up with the ads. If you don't want ads then use a free service. Oh wait, I'm sorry. Those free services have ads too. Random, large, banner ads that have nothing to do with you. And you only get 2, 4 , maybe 6 megabytes of space. If you had only put up with little, usually relevant, ads that Google placed. Too bad.

Do you think Google is just going to offer you a gigabyte of space for nothing? Why would they do that? They're a company trying to make money. They offer a service, a great service. If you don't want to use it then don't, but please don't ruin it for the rest of us.

The best solution to this would be for them to offer the service at a cost for people who don't want the ads. But I'm sure people will bitch about that as well. You just can't please people.

I don't know how long these have been online, but check out these, in my opinion very funny, commercials for the Ford SportKa. They SportKa is being billed as the evil twin to the Ka. They don't sell these in the US, as far as I know just in Europe and Mexico.

GMail

I've heard good and bad things about Googles Gmail service, but who cares, it's 1 GIGABYTE of space. I had to sign up. And lucky for me, by being a member of Blogger which is owned by Google, I get the opportunity to check it out. So my new email is *email deleted* I don't get a lot of email but still just knowing I have 1gb of space is cool.The only bad thing so far is that I couldn't use freon as my username. What's the difference between 5 and 6 characters for the username? Oh well.

Personal Journals - Sage Francis --- More white boy hip hop but not as good as Atmosphere. This is a little too poetic for my taste.

Steal This Double Album - The Coup --- This LP features one of the greatest songs I've ever heard. Me and Jesus the Pimp in a '79 Granada Last Night. It tells an awesome hip hop story with great rhymes, metaphors and delivery.

Lost in Translation OST - Various --- I loved the movie so I had to have the soundtrack. A few songs from the movie are missing but they included the excellent track of Bill Murray doing karaoke.

I've downloaded more just haven't listened to them all.
